2 TSP BAKING POWDER
1/2 C BUTTER OR SHORTENING
1 C SIFTED SUGAR
2/3 MILK
1 TSP VANILLA
3 EGG WHITES

Directions:
Directions:
SIFT FLOUR ONCE, MEASURE, ADD BAKING POWDER, AND SIFT TOGETHER 3 TIMES. CREAM SHORTENING THOROUGHLY, ADD SUGAR GRADUALLY, AND CREAM TOGETHER UNTIL LIGHT AND FLUFFY. ADD FLOUR, ALTERNATELY WITH MILK, A SMALL AMOUNT AT A TIME. BEAT AFTER EACH ADDITION UNTIL SMOOTH. ADD VANILLA. BEAT EGG WHITES UNTIL STIFF; FOLD INTO MIXTURE. BAKE IN GREASED PAN, 8X8X2 INCHES, IN MODERATE OVEN (350º) 2 HOUR, OR IN 2 GREASED 9: LAYER PANS IN MOD OVEN (375º) 25 TO 30 MINUTES. DOUBLE RECIPE FOR 3 1O" LAYERS.
