1 cup ground almonds
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup water
2 egg whites
6 baking apples
2 T. butter, melted
1/2 cups dried bread crumbs

Directions:
Directions:
With an electric blender, combine almonds, sugar, water and unbeaten egg whites. Blend to a smooth paste. Set aside. Peel apples and core almost to the bottom. Brush apples with melted butter and roll in bread crumbs. Fill cored apples with almond paste. If any butter, bread crumbs or almond paste remains, spread on top of apples. Place apples, sides just touching, in (8 or 9 inch pie dish). Bake in a moderate oven at 350º for 30 - 40 minutes or until apples test fork tender.
