½ c. shortening
1 ½ c. sugar
2 eggs beaten
2 oz. red food color
3 tbsp.. cocoa
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
2 ½ c. flour
1 c. buttermilk
1 tbsp. soda dissolved
1 tbsp. vinegar

Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar. Add beaten eggs. Make a paste out of red coloring and cocoa, add to creamed mixture. Add salt, vanilla, and flour. Alternating with buttermilk. Fold in vinegar and soda mixture. Bake at 350* for 25 to 30 minutes until done. Let cool and icing with your favorite cream cheese icing.
