Ingredients:
2 to 3 green tomatoes
2 cups self-rising flour
3/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
2 to 3 cups buttermilk
vegetable oil

Directions:
Directions:
You should get 6 or 7 slices of tomato out of one tomato. It is important that your tomato is not too thick because it will fry up soggy. Soak sliced tomatoes in buttermilk. Mix flour, salt and pepper together in a bowl. For a thick coating on tomatoes, put about 2 tablespoons buttermilk in the flour adding a drop at a time in a circular motion. Take green tomatoes out of buttermilk one at a time and put into flour mixture. Press hard to make sure tomato is well coated. Flip tomato over and press hard in flour. Fry in at 350º until golden brown. Be sure to preheat grease, it must be 350º. Use a thermometer. Do not overheat grease. One problem you might have with frying green tomatoes is the grease will become thick with flour and burn. You may have to change grease if you have to fry a large amount. Drain on paper towel. These are excellent with stewed tomatoes, ranch dressing, or hot sauce.
