1 1/4 C sifted flour
3/4 tsp soda
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/4 C dates, chopped
3/4 C firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 C water
1/2 C butter
1 C chocolate chips
2 unbeaten eggs
1/2 C milk
1/2 C orange juice
1 C nuts (optional)

Glaze:
1 1/2 C sifted confectioners sugar
2 T butter
1-2 tsp grated orange rind
2-3 T cream
orange juice

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour with soda & salt. Combine dates, brown sugar, water, & butter in sauce pan. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until dates are softened. Remove from heat. Stir in chocolate chips, them blend in eggs. Mix well. Add dry ingredients alternately with orange juice & milk. Stir in nuts.

Spread in well greased 15x10x1 jelly roll pan. Bake at 350 for 25 - 30 minutes. Cool & spread with glaze. Cut into bars or squares. Put nut meat on each bar.

For Glaze:

Blend sugar, butter, & orange rind. Blend in cream & small amount of orange juice.
