4 egg whites
1 c sugar
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp cream of tartar
1 tsp almond flavoring
12 saltines, crushed fine

Filling:
1/2 c sugar
4 egg yolks, beaten
1/4 c bottled lemon juice
1/8 tsp salt
1 pint heavy cream, whipped

Beat egg whites until frothy. Gradually add sugar, baking powder, cream of tartar, and almond flavoring, beating until glossy and stiff peaks form. Gently fold in saltines. Spoon into well greased 9 inch pie plate, mounding high along edges. Bake at 275 degrees for one hour. Cool.
Filling:
Gradually add sugar to egg yolks. Beat until lemon colored. Add lemon juice and salt. Cook, stirring constantly on top of double boiler over boiling water, until thickened. Cool well. Fold in whipped cream. Pour into meringue shell. Refrigerate.
