- 2 cups basmati rice
- 1 cup red lentils
- 1/2 yellow onion (minced)
- fresh ginger (minced)
- garlic paste
- 1/2 tbsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. turmeric powder
- 2 bay leaves
- 2-3 cardamom

Take 2 cups basmati rice and 1 cup red lentil and wash till the water runs clean. Set aside

In a pan, brown some onions (finely chopped). When the onions are lightly brown, add ginger and garlic paste, half a table spoon salt, quarter teaspoon turmeric powder, 2 bay leaves, a few cardamom.

Stir for 2 minutes. Then add the rice and lentil and stir on low heat for 5 mins. Then add 6 cups of boiling water and once the first bubble comes up, reduce heat to low and cook until rice and lentil are tender and cooked (about 20 – 30minutes).
