4 c shredded cabbage
1/4 c butter
1/2 c flour
3 c milk
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
1/4 c bread crumbs
2 T melted butter

Directions:
Oven 400º. Place the finely shredded cabbage in a buttered baking dish.
White Sauce: In sauce pan melt 1/4 c butter, add flour stirring to combine. whisk in milk and stir until sauce thickens. Add salt and pepper. Pour warm sauce over cabbage. Combine bread crumbs and melted 2 T butter, place on top of cabbage. Bake 20 minutes.

For success of this dish it is important to place it in a hot oven, not to bake more than 20 - 25 minutes, and serve at once. The cabbage remains bright green, slightly crisp and very creamy. If overcooked it is watery.
