Ingredients:
Ingredients:
3 tbsp. shortening melted (Crisco), 2 c. sugar, 1 tsp. vanilla, 6 eggs, 3 3/4 c. flour, 3 tsp. baking powder, 1/4 tsp. salt, 1 box raisins, 6 oz. semisweet chocolate chips, 1 c. walnuts chopped, 1 orange rind grated.

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º. Sift flour with sugar, baking powder and salt. Make a well and add melted Crisco, vanilla and eggs one at a time, working dough all the time to mix well. The mixture must be soft enough to be handled and patted onto the cookie sheet. Divide dough into two portions.
Filling: Place raisins, chocolate, walnuts and orange peel in a pot and cover with water and cook slowly until thick about 2 hours. Cool.
In a greased cookie sheet with raised edges, pat half the dough about 1/8 inch thick. Spread the filling over and cover with the remainder of the dough by patting the pieces of dough in your hand and placing over the filling until entire pan has been covered. Bake for 30 minutes or until nicely brown on top. When cool, cut into small squares and store in a cookie tin. These can also be frozen.
