1/2 c. shortening
1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
1c. molasses
1 c. hot water
2 1/2c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ginger
1/2 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Melt shortening in saucepan. Remove and let cool. Add sugar and eggs.
Sift flour, soda, salt and spices.
Combine molasses and water.
Add molasses and water combination alternately with flour mixture to shortening, sugar and egg mixture.

Pour into greased 9"x13" pan.
Bake at 350º for 50-60 minutes.
