3 C sifted all purpose flour
1 C granulated sugar
4 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/4 C chopped walnuts
1 egg, beaten
1/4 C soft shortening
1 1/2 C milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 C chopped walnuts

Directions:
Directions:
Sift flour, sugar, baking powder and salt into mixing bowl. Stir in the 1 1/4 cups walnuts. Add beaten egg, shortening, milk, and vanilla. Mix till blended. Turn into greased and floured loaf pan, 9x5x3 inches. Sprinkle 1/4 cup walnuts over top. Bake at 350º 60-70 minutes. Let loaf cool in pan 10 minutes. Remove loaf and cool on wire rack.

Makes 1 large loaf
