1 lb Italian sausage
1 C all purpose flour
1/4 t salt
1/3 C shortening
3 to 4 T water
1 beaten egg

Cut sausage in half and brown all sides. Drain. Stir together flour and salt. Cut in shortening till mixture resembles small peas. Gradually add cold water, a tablespoon at a time, tossing with fork till mixture is dampened. Form into ball. Roll dough on lightly floured surface to 10x8 inch rectangle. Cut dough in half lengthwise. Roll one sausage lengthwise in each rectangle until sausage in enclosed. Cut off excess dough and reserve it for trimming. Tuck under ends of roll. Trim with four narrow strips of dough, equally spaced, around the roll. Brush each stuffed pastry roll with a little beaten egg. Place rolls on baking sheet and bake in 425º oven 12-15 minutes or until pastry is golden. Remove from oven and slice rolls into serving pieces.
