2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 sticks margarine
1 cup water
3 T. cocoa
2 eggs
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla

ICING
1 stick margarine
1/3 cup milk
3 T. cocoa
1 lb. powdered sugar (sifted)
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 cup pecan pieces (optional)

Directions:

Mix flour, salt and sugar together and set aside.
Bring water, margarine and cocoa to a boil. Mix together eggs, buttermilk, soda and vanilla. combine all the ingredients and mix well. Pour batter on to a greased and floured (rimmed) cookie pan (10" x 15" x 2"). Bake at 350º F for 20 minutes.

Make icing when cake has 5 minutes left to bake. Heat, but do not boil: margarine, milk and cocoa until margarine has melted. Add powdered sugar and vanilla. Beat until smooth and add nuts. Pour over warm cake.

To make more "chocolaty" add 1 more T. cocoa to the cake mix.
Buttermilk can be made by adding 2-3 T. vinegar to milk.
If using self-rising flour eliminate the salt and baking soda.
