2 cups yellow split peas
10 cups water
1 ham bone or 1/4 pound chopped ham
2 large onions, diced
3 medium carrots, peeled and diced
1 tsp summer savory
1 Bay leaf

Directions:
Directions:
Rinse peas. In a large pot add all the ingredients and bring to a boil. Skim off scum. Reduce heat, cover and simmer for 3 hours or until beans are cooked. Take out the bone if you used a bone. Remove all meat off the bone before throwing the bone out and put the meat back in the pot. Stir well and if soup is still too runny then return to stove on low heat and simmer for another 10-20 minutes.
