SYRUP:
1 cup sugar
1 cup of water
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup cream
1 Tbsp butter
1 tsp vanilla

BATTER:
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup lard
3 egg yolks
2 tsp baking powder
1 cup cold water
2 cups flour
1 tsp vanilla
3 egg whites beaten

Directions for Syrup: Brown the white sugar in pan slowly. Add 1 cup of water letting sugar and water boil into a syrup. Set aside to cool.

Directions for batter: cream sugar and lard together with a mixer. Add egg yolks, water and beat together. The add flour, vanilla and burnt sugar syrup. Combine flour and baking powder together. Add the flour and baking powder mixture to the batter. Then fold in beaten egg whites. Pour batter into two round, greased and floured, cake pans. Bake at 350 for 25 minutes (until inserted pick comes out clean).

ICING FOR BURNT SUGAR CAKE
Add 1 cup sugar and 1/2 cup cream to the burnt sugar pan, boil until a little harden (about 12 min.) add butter and vanilla. Beat until cool.Frost the top of one cake then add the other cake to the top and frost the entire cake.
