2 c. sugar
2. eggs
2 c. shortening
2/3 c. buttermilk
1 tsp. soda
4 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
Vanilla Extract
Lemon Extract

Directions:
Directions:
Put 1 c. flour or as much as is needed for a soft dough on the board and work into the first mixture.
First: mix the eggs with the sugar then add the shortening and beat well. Add the buttermilk with the soda dissolved in it and beat again. Then add the four cups of flour with the 2 tsp. of baking powder sifted in it. Then add a tablespoonful or more of lemon & vanilla extract.
Roll to 1/4 inch thick and sprinkle with sugar and roll over with pin. Cut into squares. If you do not have pastry cutter use a knife. Squares seem to bake better.

Bake at 350 º for 10 minutes.
