3 cups dry oat flakes
2 1/2 cups milk
Honey to taste
A pinch of salt (optional)
1/3 cup raisins
1/2 cup coarsely chopped hazelnuts
1/2 cup strawberries, sliced
1/2 cup blueberries
1/2 cup peeled, cut-up peaches or nectarines
1/2 cup orange sections
1/2 cup grapefruit sections (preferably pink)
1 small banana, sliced
1 teaspoon grated orange rind
1/2 cup raspberries
1 cup heavy cream, whipped (optional)

Directions:

1. Put the oatmeal flakes in a large bowl. Add the milk,
honey, salt, if desired, and the raisins. Soak, covered, overnight in the
refrigerator.
2. The next morning, add the chopped nuts and all the remaining
ingredients except the raspberries and cream. Top with raspberries.
NOTE: To make more opulent, serve each portion with a
large spoonful of whipped cream.

This dish of rolled oats, nuts, fresh and dried fruits is one that I
learned from my landlady when I was working in Switzerland as a
young woman. Just enough milk is added to refresh the mixture. I
guarantee you that any child will vacuum his plate of it. It is also a
wonderful way to use up overripe fruit.
