2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon soda
3/4 cup butter
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 cup nuts (optional)
1 teaspoon vanilla
Frosting:
1 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup milk
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/8 cup butter
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Directions:
Directions:
Sift together flour, salt and soda. Set aside. Combine butter, sugar, and milk in heavy saucepan. Bring to boil and cook for 1 minute. Remove from heat and add powdered sugar, nuts and vanilla. Blend in dry ingredients and spread in greased 9x13 inch pan. Bake at 350 º for 10-15 minutes.
Frosting:
Combine brown sugar, milk and salt in pan on stove. Cook over medium heat, stirring continually till soft ball stage. Add butter and vanilla. Cool till luke-warm. Beat until spreading consistency. Add a little milk if it is needed.
