2 c. grated coconut (fresh or frozen)
2 c. sugar
20ml milk
1 tsp. powdered cardamom
3-4 tbsp. cashew-almond mixture (small pieces)
1/2 tsp. butter

Directions:
Directions:
In a thick bottomed saucepan stir milk and sugar on low heat until sugar dissolves. Add grated coconut and saute until the mixture comes off easily without sticking to the pan(approx. 25-30 min). Add the remaining ingredients(except butter) and mix well.
Grease a cookie sheet with butter and pour the mixture in to it. Spread evenly and let it cool for a short while. With a greased knife, cut into squares when it is still warm. Let it cool down completely.
Store in air tight containers.

Coconut squares, also known as Kobbari Mitayi is a traditional dessert from Karnataka (one of the four South Indian states). It is made for festivals and other special occasions. Enjoy!!
