Bread Pudding Recipe

1 loaf old bread (hamburger, hot dog buns, or French bread works best)
3-4 cups milk
6 eggs
vanilla
2 cups sugar
cinnamon
1-2 apples (peeled and sliced thinly)
raisins
1 stick margarine

Directions:
Directions:
Tear bread into chunks. Beat eggs and milk. Pour over bread. Add sugar, vanilla, apples, and raisins. Mixture will be very soupy. Pour into greased casserole dish. Melt margarine and pour over pudding. Sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon. Bake at 350-375º until middle is set and top is brown. Usually 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours.

Very good by itself but can top with a lemon or Caramel glaze.

caramel Sauce:
3/4 cup butter
3/4 cup white sugar
3/4 cup packed brown sugar
3/4 cup heavy cream
1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
Combine all ingredients in saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring constantly. Spoon over bread pudding while sauce and pudding is warm.

Lemon Sauce:
•1/2 cup granulated sugar
•1 tablespoon cornstarch
•1/4 teaspoon salt
•1 cup boiling water
•1 tablespoon finely grated lemon peel
•2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
•1 tablespoon butter
In a saucepan, combine sugar, cornstarch and salt. Add boiling water. Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture is thick and clear. Stir in lemon peel, lemon juice, and butter. Serve warm over bread pudding
