1 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
2 tsp. vanilla
6 egg yolks
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
3 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. salt
Desired Filling (2 jars or 2 cans appricot or peach)

Directions:
Directions:
Cream sugar and shortening. Add vanilla, egg yolks. Mix in flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Work with hands until dough holds together. Lightly flour cookie sheet. press dough into bottum. Spread dough with filling and beat egg whites until stiff. Gradually add 12 tbsp sugar. Spread over filling. Sprinkle with chopped nuts. Bake 350 degrees for 30 minutes. Cut into squares or diamond shapes.
