2 1/2 cups Kellogg's corn flakes
2 1/4 cups sifted regular all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup regular margarine or butter, softened
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
2 Tbsps milk
1 tsp vanilla flavoring
1 cup chopped nuts (optional)
1 cup finely cut, pitted dates
1/3 cup finely cut maraschino cherries
18 maraschino cherries, cut in quarters

1. Measure corn flakes; crush into coarse crumbs. Set aside.
2. Sift together flour, baking powder, soda and salt. Set aside.
3. Measure margarine and sugar into mixer bowl; beat until very light and fluffy. Add eggs and beat well. Stir in milk and vanilla. Add sifted dry ingredients together with nuts, dates and the finely cut cherries; mix until combined.
4. Shape level measuring -tablespoons of dough into balls. Roll balls in crushed corn flakes; place on greased baking sheets. Top each cooky with a cherry quarter.
5. Bake in moderate oven (350º) about 12 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove immediately from baking sheets; cool on wire racks.
