3 eggs, beaten
3/4 cup sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 1/2 cup sifted flour
1/4 tsp salt.
1 cup chopped pitted dates
1 cup chopped pecans or black walnuts
1/2 cup dried maraschino cherries cut fine
1 tsp baking powder

Directions:
Directions:
Beat sugar and vanilla into beaten eggs; add combination of sifted flour, baking powder and salt. Fold in dates, nuts and cherries. Bake in greased shallow pan about 9 X 13, at 350⁰ until top will not retain the impression of a finger and cookies are lightly browned. Remove from oven and while warm, brush with icing made by mixing confectioners’ sugar with a little milk and flavoring with lemon extract or grated lemon rind. Cut into bars when cooled.
