1 yellow cake mix, baked according to the instructions.
1 cup milk
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 package shredded coconut
1 large carton of Kool-whip topping

Directions:
Directions:
Bake the yellow cake according to the instructions, in a 8x13 inch sheet cake pan. While it bakes heat the milk and melt the sugar in it. Add the vanilla. While the cake is warm, using the handle of a wooden spoon, poke a number of holes into the cake. Pour the hot sugar-milk mixture evenly over the cake. Allow it to cool. Mix the coconut and the Kool-whip. Spread the mixture evenly atop the cool cake. Serve.

This is a church pot-luck dinner recipe from Opha Stewart Vinson, but it became "Mr. Vinson's Coconut Cake" at Southside High School Home Economics department in the late '70's.
