1 cup shortening
2 tablespoons cocoa
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 ounces red food coloring
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
2 1/2 cups cake flour
2 eggs
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 tablespoon vinegar

Directions:
Directions:
Cream the sugar and shortening. Add the eggs and mix well.
Make a paste of the food coloring and cocoa and add to the mixture.
Mix salt and vanilla into the buttermilk, and add alternately with the flour. Add the soda and vinegar. blend well.

Pour into 2 greased and floured cake pans. Bake at 300º for 30 minutes. Ice with cream cheese icing.
