Turnips(aka Rutabagas) 2 small ones about the size of large grapefruits. The big ones are woodier.
2 c milk or half and half,
1 stick butter, salt and pepper.

Peel off the waxy skin. Cut the rutabagas into small cubes. Boil them in salt water till they are tender. It takes a while. Drain them and place in a large bowl. add the milk or cream a little at a time and stop when it is the texture of loose mashed potatoes not watery. Put half of the butter in. Mix with a hand mixer to remove all lumps. Remove any woody pieces if there are any. Salt and pepper to taste. Top with the rest of the butter in chunks. You can make it the day before a big dinner and reheat in the oven.
