1/2 cup all purpose flour
1/4 cup white sugar
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg (optional)
1/8 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/3 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
1/3 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

FILLING
6 cups firm, tart tasting apples (peeled, cored, and cut into 1 inch chunks)
juice of 1/2 lemon
1 teaspoon lemon zest
3 tablespoonswhite sugar

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 with the rack in the middle.
Butter or spray a 9 X13 pan .
Mix all the filling ingredients in the 9 X 13 pan.
Mix all the topping ingredients but butter in a bowl and place on top of the filling, randomly place butter on top.

Bake for 30-40 mins or until bubbly and the topping is golden brown

Remove from oven and cool for 30 mins before serving.

Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, milk, or whipping cream
