Italian Ceci Turnovers Recipe

Filling
Rind from 2 oranges 2 cups nuts grated
2 cont. citron chopped fine 1 cup honey
2 tsp cinnamon 1 cup sugar
16 oz can ceci mashed with a fork

Dough
2 eggs 1 tps baking powder
1/4 cup oil 1/4 cup sugar
2 1/2 cup flour 1/4 cup water

Directions:

Mix all filling ingredients together in a bowl and set aside.
Mix all dough ingredients together adding more water if needed to make a fairly stiff dough. Roll dough about 1/8 inch thick and cut out circles using a large glass tumbler. Place filling on one side of circle and fold as for turnovers. Seal edges with a fork dipped in water. Fry in hot oil until golden brown on both sides. Drain on paper bags. Sprinkle with confectionary sugar to serve.

This was one of Daddy's favorite cookie recipes. Even though it is a time consuming recipe the results are well worth the time. Athough it's not in the original recipe we added chocolate chips to the filling.
