1 (15-oz.) can or 1 (10-oz.) pkg. frozen peas
1 T. margarine or butter
1/4 tsp. salt
dash black pepper
Dumplings:
3/4 c. all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/8 tsp. salt
1 egg, beaten
2 T. milk

Directions:
Directions:
Cook peas with butter, salt, pepper and water to equal about 1 c. liquid. While peas cook prepare dumplings: in a small bowl mix flour with baking powder and salt, create a small well in the middle. Mix egg with milk and pour into the well; stir with a fork to create a soft dough. Drop dumplings by teaspoons into the simmering peas. Cover and cook for 10 minutes or until dumplings are done.

Both of my German grandmothers served peas this way. I can only guess that it was a tasty way to stretch precious garden peas in the spring and canned ones in the winter.
