5 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
2 packages dry yeast
1 T. sugar
2 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. baking soda
2 c. milk
1/2 c. water
Cornmeal

Directions:
Directions:
In a bowl, combine 3 cups of the flour, the yeast, sugar, salt, and baking soda. In a saucepan, heat the milk and water until hot, then pour them into the flour mixture. Beat with a wooden spoon until well combined. Stir in more flour, enough to make a stiff batter.
Spoon the batter into two well-greased loaf pans sprinkled with cornmeal. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 45 minutes. Bake for 25 minutes or until done in an oven preheated to 400º. Remove from pans immediately. Serve toasted.
