1 c. shortening
1 3/4 c. sugar
1/2 c. milk
3 eggs
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
4 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. salt
4 c. strawberries crushed
Directions:
Directions:
Cream shortening and sugar. Add rest of ingredients, except strawberries. It will have the consistency of biscuit dough. Divide into two portions. Place each portion into greased and floured cake pans. Bake at 350º for 30 minutes or until done. Cool cakes on rack. Divide each cake horizontally (can freeze one cake for later use). Put half of crushed strawberries mixed with two spoonfuls of sugar on bottom half of cake, cut side up. Put top layer on, cut side up with remaining strawberry mixture on top. Serve slices in bowl with milk.

This is Grandma Webster's recipe. She used to cook with out measuring. Mom helped to develop the written recipe. It is Dad's favorite dessert. Eating this cake with milk is what makes this recipe so unique. A family tradition every summer!
