4 tbsp. butter, 1 tbsp. shortening, 1 1/4 c. sugar, 4 eggs, 1 lb. sifted flour, 2 tsp. baking powder, grated rind 1/2 lemon, pinch salt, 1 egg and 1 tbsp. milk for glaze.

Cream butter and shortening. Add sugar and eggs and beat. In another bowl blend flour, baking powder, rind and salt. Add gradually to butter mixture. On a lightly floured board, knead dough until smooth. Dough is very sticky and may need up to one cup more flour. Chill dough for 30 minutes. Roll medium pieces of dough into long cords, 1/2 inch thick. Cut into pieces 3 1/12 inches long. Form unto U or S shapes. Place cookies on greased cookie sheet. Brush tops with glaze. Bake at 375º for 12 to 15 min. or until golden brown.

I did make these cookies and they come out very good once you figure out how to handle the sticky dough.
