3/4 c coarsely chopped walnuts
1/3 c sugar
1 1/2 tsp cinnamon

1 3/4 c flour
1 T baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/3 tsp salt
1/2 c butter, softened
1/2 c sugar
2 eggs
1/4 tsp vanilla
1 c buttermilk
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp nutmeg

Preheat oven to 375º (350º for dark pan). Spray 12-cup muffin pan with Pam.
Mix walnuts, sugar, & cinnamon in small bowl; set aside.
In small bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, & salt.
In large bowl, beat butter on medium speed until creamy. Add sugar & beat for 4 minutes, until light & fluffy.
Add eggs one at a time, mixing in at low speed. Add vanilla at low speed.
Add half of flour mixture; beat on low until blended.
Add buttermilk, cinnamon & nutmeg; mix until smooth.
Add remainder of flour mixture & mix on low just until blended.
Fill muffin cups halfway. Sprinkle each with a tablespoon of swirl. Top with remaining batter. Sprinkle each with heaping teaspoon of swirl.
Bake about 22 minutes, until pale golden brown. Test for doneness with toothpick.
Cool 5 minutes in pan. Serve warm or at room temperature.
