Combine:
1 cup chopped dates 1 cup boiling water
Cool to room temperature.
Cream:
2/3 cup shortening 1 cup sugar
Add:
1 tsp vanilla 2 eggs
Beat well.
Sift together:
1 3/4 cup flour 1 tsp baking soda
2 Tbsp cocoa 1/2 tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
Add flour mixture to creamed mixture alternately with date mixture, beating after each addition. Spread into a greased 13x9x2 in pan.

Sprinkle on top:
1 -6oz pkg of chocolate chips 1 cup nuts
1/2 cup cherry chips

Bake @ 350º oven until done. Cool in pan, cut in squares and serve with whipped cream or ice cream
