4 cups pitted dates
2 cups coarsley chopped walnuts
2 cups boiling water
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
1 3/4 cup brown sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla
2 3/4 cup flour
1 1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt

Directions:
Directions:
With scissors, cut dates in thirds, add nuts and boiling water
Let cool
In large bowl, beat with electric mixer the butter, sugar, eggs, and vanilla until smooth
Add cooled date mixture and stir well
Add flour mixed with soda and salt and beat all together well
Use wooden spoon until combined
Pour into 2 greased 8 inch pans
Bake at 350º for 70 minutes
Cool in pans for 10 minutes
Remove to wire rack and let cool completely before serving or storing
