2 pkgs. dry yeast
2 c. lukewarm water
2 tbsp. white sugar
2 tsp. salt
3 c. white flour
1/2 c. hot water
1/2 c. brown sugar
3 tbsp. soft lard (or Crisco)
3 c. whole wheat flour

Directions:
Directions:
Soften yeast in lukewarm water. Add white sugar, salt and white flour to make a sponge. Set in a warm place for 1 hour. Combine hot water with brown sugar and lard. Cool to lukewarm and add to sponge. Add whole wheat flour and mix well. Add enough white flour to make a soft dough. Let rise and punch down. Form into loaves and place in greased loaf pans. Let rise until light. Bake at 350º for 50 minutes. If glass pans are used, then heat oven to 325º. Grease tops with butter.
