1 package of raw barley
1 large whole onion
2 carrots - cut or diced
3 cloves of fresh garlic
1 zucchini cut into pieces(optional)
salt 1 tsp
3 tbsp onion soup mix + 1 tbs. parve chicken powder soup mix
dill and/or parsley

soak barley for 2 hours or overnight.
fill large pot ( 4-6 quart) water, add barley, carrots, zucchini, and rest of ingredients.
cook in high till boils and then lower to simmer approx. 1 1/2 hrs.-2 hrs.
