1 c. sugar
1 c. shortening
1 egg
4 T. molasses (1/4 c.)
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. ginger
1/4 tsp. cloves
2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. nutmeg

Directions:
Directions:
Cream together sugar and shortening. Add egg and molasses, stir. Sift together salt, flour, soda and spices. Mix into batter. (I place in refrigerator for an hour to make dough easier to work with.) Roll dough into balls about the size of a walnut, place on cookie sheet after dipping in a cinnamon/sugar mixture. Press down with fork dipped in sugar.
