Ingredients:
Ingredients:
1 cup butter
1 cup vegetable oil
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup powdered sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp. vanilla
4 cups flour
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt

Directions:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350º. In a large mixing bowl, cream butter, vegetable oil and sugars. Add eggs and vanilla and beat well. In a separate bowl, sift flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt together and mix thoroughly. Add flour mixture to creamed mixture and blend completely. Chill cookie dough at least 30 minutes. When thoroughly chilled, shape dough into walnut size balls or smaller. On a lightly greased baking sheet, arrange balls of dough. Using a glass with a flat bottom, dip glass into granulated sugar and flatten each ball. Return to sugar to dip glass bottom again and repeat process on next dough ball. Bake 10 to 12 minutes until cookies have a brown rim.
Variation: At Christmas time, use colored sugar to flatten cookies. For different Christmas shapes, roll chilled dough into a 1/4-inch thick layer and use cookie cutters. Bake and frost.

Personal Notes:
These are the best sugar cookies hands down! I use this recipe every time the boys make cut-out Christmas cookies. Friends of mine have begged me for this recipe, but it came from my Mom. It's definitely earned "braggin' rights".
