½ cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 sq unsweetened chocolate
1 tsp vanilla
½ cup flour
½ tsp salt
¼ tsp baking powder
2 eggs well beaten
½ cup coarsely chopped walnuts (optional)

Directions:
Directions:
Melt butter and chocolate in top of double boiler over hot, not boiling water. Stir occasionally. Remove from heat when melted and pour into a mixing bowl. Add sugar and vanilla and beat until blended. Set aside to cool.

Stir the eggs into the chocolate mixture. Gradually blend in the dry ingredients. Stir in the nuts.

Pour into greased 8 x 8 x 2 inch pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 30 minutes or until cake tester inserted in center comes out clean.

Spread confectioners icing on top (see recipe)

When thoroughly cooled cut into bars.
