Directions:
Line a greased 10x15x1-inch baking pan with waxed paper. Grease the waxed paper and set aside.
In large mixing bowl, beat egg yolks, 1/2 cup of the sugar and vanilla until thick. In small mixing bowl, using clean beater, beat egg whites until foamy. Gradually add remaining 1/4 cup sugar, beating till stiff peaks form; fold into the yolk mixture. Combine the flour, salt, and baking powder and fold into cake mixture. Pour into prepared pan. Bake at 350° for 15 minutes or until cake springs back when lightly touched. Cool for 5 minutes. Turn cake on kitchen towel which has been dusted with powdered sugar. Gently peel off waxed paper and roll cake in the towel, jelly roll style, starting with a short side. Cool completely.
Assembly: Unroll cake, spread with 3 cups of softened ice cream to within 1/2 inch of edge. Carefully roll up again; put seam side down on a sheet of foil. Wrap securely and freeze till firm.
