chocolate chips
paraffin

Directions:
For making those candies which call for paraffin to be melted with the chocolate (it helps the chocolate to "set" more and not be sticky,) use a vegetable peeler to shave the paraffin directly into the chocolate before melting it. Paraffin by itself cannot be melted in the microwave since microwave energy passes right through it (just like a window.) The heat from chocolate however, will melt paraffin easily.

Chocolate can burn very quickly in the microwave since it has a high concentration of cocoa butter in it which attracts the microwaves. Use 50 percent ( Medium) power for best results in melting chocolate. Actually the chocolate will hold its original shape until stirred after being microwaved. It takes approximately 3 to 3 1/2 minutes to melt a 6 -ounce package of chocolate chips and 5 to 5 1/2 minutes to melt a 12-ounce package.
