5 slices of bacon, cooked crisp and crumbled
2 T bacon drippings
2 T chopped onion
2 T sugar
1/4 c vinegar
2 cans green beans, 2 pkg frozen cooked green beans, or cooked fresh green beans
Directions:
Directions:
Saute onion in bacon drippings till translucent. Add rest of ingredients and simmer a couple of minutes. Pour over beans and top with bacon.

Bacon makes it a "special occasion" dish only, but it's good! B.J. was a neighbor from the south who cooked like Paula Deen years ago. This particular recipe came from the back of a package of Italian green beans. I later adapted it to a quanity recipe to serve 100 at the Woman's Club...it made a permanent home with the canned green beans crowd! Most of the time now we've stopped bothering with the bacon itself...just use drippings and sugar and vinegar and onions! The semi-liquid pork fat sold at Mexican markets to make masa for tamales works great in lots of recipes that need bacon drippings.
