1 cup sugar
1 stick butter
˝ cup buttermilk
1 tbsp white Karo syrup

Stir all ingredients well in a heavy saucepan until sugar is dissolved. Bring to a rolling boil, take off stove holes in. Pour over cake while warm. Pour fruit over top if desired.
