1 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
2/3 c. Crisco shortening
1/2 c. milk

6-8 tsp. butter or margarine

Directions:
In large bowl add the first 5 ingredients for pastry; mix until a stiff dough forms. Divide dough into 6-8 balls. Roll out each ball on floured surface. Place a pared and cored apple in the center of each circle of pastry. Fill the cavity of each apple with the next 2 ingredients (1/2 c. sugar & 1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon mixture) and place 1 tsp. butter on top of each apple. Pull the pastry up around the apple and pinch at the top and seal all edges. Place in a 9"X13" glass baking dish.

In a sauce pan, add the 1 c. sugar, 2 c. water, 3 tbsp. butter, and 1/4 tsp. cinnamon and bring to a boil and boil for 3 minutes. Immediately pour the sauce mixture over the apples.

Bake at 425 degrees for 10 minutes, then reduce temperature to 375 degrees for 40-50 minutes.

PS. - While baking it is important to baste the dumplings with the sauce about every 15 - 20 minutes. This makes a nice crust on top!
