6 mirlitons
1 qt white vinegar
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/4 salt
1 T celery seed
1 T whole all spice
1 T whole cloves
2 cinnamon sticks
2 - 3 sliced onions
1 -2 diced green or red peppers

Directions:
Directions:
Peel and cut mirliton in carrot-stick sized pieces. Soak in ice water for 3 - 4 hours. Keep in refrigerator. Meanwhile, boil vinegar, sugar and salt. Add celery seed, all spice, cloves and cinnamon. After mirliton has soaked in ice water for 3 - 4 hours, drain and place in jars. Add 2 or 3 slices of onions and/or green or red pepper in each jar. Pour liquid over the mirliton "pickles" and cover. Keep refrigerated in jars or process for canning if longer storage is desired. Eat like popcorn; serve with roast, chicken or other meat.
