2 sticks margarine
2 cups brown sugar
2 eggs
3 1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup milk
DATE FILLING:
2 cups pitted dates
3/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup water
1/2 cup walnuts, chopped

Directions:
Directions:
For filling combine dates, sugar, and water in saucepan. Cook slowly until thickened. Stir in nuts and set aside to cool.

For cookie dough cream together margarine, sugar, and eggs. Stir in remaining ingredients and mix well. Place about 1 teaspoonful at a time on greased cookie sheet. On each mound of dough drop a small portion of filling then top with another small portion of dough to each.

Bake at 375 degrees 12 to 15 minutes.
