5 c. fresh or frozen, unsweetened blackberries
1 1/2 T. lemon juice
2 c. flour
3 c. sugar, divided
1 c. milk
1/3 c. butter or margarine, softened
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt, divided
2 1/2 T. cornstarch
1 1/2 c. boiling water

Spread berries in a greased or sprayed 2 1/2 qt. shallow baking dish. Sprinkle lemon juice over berries. In a medium bowl, mix flour, 1 1/2 c. sugar, the milk, butter, baking powder and 1/2 tsp. salt to create a thick, smooth batter; spread over berries. In a small bowl mix remaining 1 1/2 c. sugar, the cornstarch and remaining 1/2 tsp. salt; sprinkle over batter. Pour boiling water over all. Bake at 350º, 1 hour or until golden brown and glazed.
