1 1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter,cut into pieces (plus a little more for brushing)
1/2 clove garlic
1/3 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/3 cup shredded asiago cheese
1/3 cup shredded raclette or comte cheese
2 pounds russet potatoes, peeled and sliced 1/8 inch thick
salt and pepper
2 cups heavy cream
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
4 bay leaves
1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese

Directions:

* Position rack in the upper third of 425º oven
* Generously brush a large skillet with butter then rub with garlic
* Combine mozzarella, asiago and raclette in a bowl
* Heat skillet over medium/high heat
* Add half potatoes spreading them out
* Sprinkle potatoes with salt, half of the cut up butter, half of the cheese mixture, and pepper to taste
* Arrange the remaining potatoes on top of potatoes in skillet
* Sprinkle with salt and pepper
* Pour the cream over the potatoes in the skillet
* Add the nutmeg and bay leaves and simmer for 3-5 minutes
* Dot the potatoes with the remaining cut up butter
* Generously brush a shallow baking dish with butter and slide the potatoes into the dish arranging them with a fork if needed
* Sprinkle the potatoes with the parmesan and the remaning cheese blend
* Bake until golden about 25 minutes
* Discard the bay leaves * Let rest 5 minutes
