1 (16.5-oz.) box (no pudding) yellow cake mix
8 T. butter, melted
4 large eggs
1 1/2 c. light corn syrup
1/2 c. packed brown sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c. chopped pecans, toasted
Ice cream, optional
Whipped cream, optional

Directions:
Crust: Place cake mix, melted butter and 1 egg in large mixing bowl. Blend with mixer on low speed until combined and thick. Reserve 2/3 cup batter; spread the remaining batter in the bottom of ungreased 9x13-inch pan. Bake at 325º for 15 minutes until crust is light brown and puffs up. Remove from oven and place on cooling rack for 10 minutes; leave oven on.
Filling: To reserved crust mixture add syrup, sugar, remaining three eggs and vanilla. Blend well. Fold in pecans, mix well and pour on top of crust, smoothing it out. Bake until edges are browned but center is still soft, 40 to 45 minutes. Remove pan from oven and cool. Serve squares topped with ice cream or whipped topping if desired.
